The tool will then compare the two items and display a report of any differences between them. So we need a quicker way to compare two libraries. Replace Path 1 and Path2 with the path to the two folders that you want to compare. Copy the folder locations and paste it in the following command. One thing we should keep in mind here is that diff utility compares files by content, and that may result in a significant delay at large volumes of compared data. From the menu that appears, select Compare Files. If you need to compare two document libraries with 100s or 100s of documents you could loop through the documents in one library and then compare them with another library but that isn’t going to perform at all. Open both folders in File Explorer and click inside the location bar. Select two files in Solution Explorer and right-click to bring up the context menu. To exclude all the *.log files from the example above, we add –exclude=’*.log’ to the command: diff -brief -recursive Dir1 Dir2 -exclude '*.log' Files Dir1/client.log and Dir2/client.log differįiles Dir1/subdir1/file12 and Dir2/subdir1/file12 differįiles Dir1/subdir2/file22 and Dir2/subdir2/file22 differĪnother useful option of diff utility is –exclude, it allows filtering out items that we are not interested in within the scope of comparison.
